Björk just released the first music video from her latest album, Vulnicura. Directed by famed fashion photographers Inez & Vinoodh, the Lionsong music video sees Björk don the Hellraiser-like outfit from the album cover.
Vulnicura – Björk's Return to Form?
Vulnicura is a deeply personal album focusing on Björk's breakup with visual artist Matthew Barney. While the majority of the songs on the album have a very idiosyncratic structure, I think it shares some resemblance with Homogenic – arguably her last mainstream project. The album coincides with the launch of a retrospective exhibition of her work at New York's Museum of Modern Art. While the exhibition has received mixed reviews, the album and Björk's live performances have received high praise from critics.
Her last release, Biophilia involved an app for iPads and iPhones that let you delve further into the scientific background of the songs, innovative musical instruments and a crowd-funding campaign to port the app to Android devices. It is welcome to see a simpler album from Björk, that puts the music at the forefront.
Give the song a listen above and let me know what you think of the video in the comments.
You can purchase Vulnicura on iTunes or Amazon. Björk's retrospective exhibition at MoMA in New York runs until the 7th of June, 2015.
